FM146 question
Does anyone happen to know the exact gear ratios in the FM146 5-speed tranny? I'm doing some research on this tranny and cannot find this answer anywhere on the net. All I keep getting is info. on the FM145 and I don't know if there is any difference in ratios between the two.

One more question. I need to replace the FM146 in my '89 B2. I want to put in an M5OD R1. I noticed there is 2 M5OD R1's which have different ratios between the both. The one for the 2.3 and 3.0 Ranger have the closest ratios to my FM146. Would that transmission bolt right up to my 2.9 or would I need the Explorer tranny or would both bolt up?

Rangers and B2's from 1988 to 1992 ran either the FM146 in the 4X4's and the FM145 in the 2X4's and most everything i have ever seen on it is showing that they ran 3.72 gear ratio in those trannys.
I have seen some specifications showing the FM146 running 3.45, but not sure how acurate that really is. I'd say about 90% of it looks just like this FM145 below.
The FM145 runs at 1st.) 3.72 2nd.) 2.2 3rd.) 1.5 4th.) 1.0 5th.) 0.79

How does the tranny interchange go again????????
2.9 and 4.0, 3.0 only, 2.3 and 2.5. You could use the search feature on the FTE tranny board or just read... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum69/
