General Ameritrac Tires

<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1> <!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->

I just returned from a trip towing my 14,000 pound trailer up and down the mountain passes in Or-E-Gun.

While checking tires before setting off for home I noticed that the two rear outside tires on the dually have a groove that runs completely around the outside of the tire, just about 1.5 inches above the raised letters. The odd thing is that the front tires don't have this groove ring.

I took a couple of pictures. Hope you can see the groove in them. The first one is of the front tire and shoes no grove (which is about 1.5 inches above the raised letters and runs all the way around).

The next several pics are left and right side dually tires. Both have the grooves.

I run 75 lbs pressure front and rear when towing. Both inside and outside tires as well.

Weird - Huh!!

Any ideas?

General tires suck about as bad as Contis. I had the same problem on some Generals on my '01 Expedition... actually noticed little "strings" of rubber peeling off in that groove. Long story short, new tires, of a decent brand (Michelin, for that truck).

The last set of Generals I had seperated somehow inside the tires and caused the truck to pull to one side real bad even though it was in line. As soon as I switched brands, it went away. I wouldn't buy them again. On edit, that was on my f150.

good luck
