Torque on diff.

Im changing the cover on rear differental. Does anyone know what tourque the bolts should be at? I cant find it mentioned in the Haynes manual. Its an F250 1999 4x4 Thanks

In the five differentials I've done (8 times total...gave me hell on mine...), I've sealed them with RTV, then pressed it into place and tightened firmly to the point the RTV stops oozing out the sides. That's when I call it secure, and I've yet to have a leak.

35 ft/lbs. for a stock/steel type cover.

One thing I've done is to apply a moderate layer of RTV on the differential mounting surface, install the cover and insert all of the bolts, finger tight. Let it set for 10 minutes and then torque 'em down.

yea i would definetly use some rtv. Then start all the bolts by hand and torque them down to 30-35 ft lbs. Then wipe off the extra rtv so its not so messy next time you take the cover off.

SO far so good, no gasket and no leak,RTV only. Thanks for the help
