Miserable Cold!!!

I'm on Day #5 with a horrible head cold! Yesterday it moved from my sinuses to my chest, and I have to say, this totally sucks !! I trained all summer, and have had my calendar marked for at least five months, to run my first 10K Race today. But, NOOOO, the only running I'm doing today is to get to the Kleenex box. The last time I had a cold was in December 2004 ~ I'm so lucky to be so healthy. But today, I'm a whinny, crabby, grumpy baby. And five days for a cold??? In September??? What's up with that? The way I feel today, I doubt I'll feel any better before the end of this weekend, let alone by next weekend. I can't remember the last time I skipped more than a couple days of not either riding my bike(s), or running, or hiking, or walking the dogs, or something! Waaahh!! I feel like I'm gonna die.....

Okay, enough ranting! On the good side: Hubby has been very sweet - brought home a very tasty smoked whole chicken for dinner last night so I didn't have to cook; brought me the newspaper in bed this morning & fixed me up a bagel w/ cream cheese for breakfast; picked me up a box of that soft 3-ply Kleenex with aloe lotion in it. And, I suppose I finally have some time to copy all my CDs to my new iPod.

It's gonna be a long weekend.......

Just getting fully over my cold after a freakin week. They do seem to be hanging around longer, since I get 4-5 a year from my kids (3 & 5), it's easy to tell

Hope you feel better soon.

You need plenty of fluids, lots of rest, and no talk shows.

Have you tried Chinese hot & sour soup? That stuff, and Chinese hot mustard, will clear your sinuses up and drain all that junk right out of your skull! Yes, 'ancient Chinese secret'. Then again, maybe it just works for me.

I hope you feel better soon.

i don't use the cold thing anymore.
i now use the broken foot excuse, and get to take 2 weeks off.

Based on over forty years as a pharmacist and personal experimentation I advocate massive doses of vitamin C and if you can get it Cold FX. The Cold FX is a good immune system booster and if taken as directed will cut the cold's duration considerably. I usually take one a day as a preventative and it seems to work as I haven't picked up my wifes colds. If it isn't available get cold meds to treat the symptoms. Things like Tylenol Cold & Sinus etc. Lots of fluids and rest and if you have a fever keep it down so it doesn't wear down your body

ZiCam!

Had a cold two years ago, my wife's manager recommended this stuff.
Cold symptoms were gone in two days!!!!!

Other than that . . . rest. Lots of fluids.
Hot tea, with lemon and Canadian Club. Lots of this potion. Oh, you'll still have the cold (unless you use the ZiCam) but, you won't care!

I agree with OOblueOval. ZiCam works great! As soon as I feel a cold coming on I start using the stuff and it stops the cold in its tracks. Its a little expensive but it is definitely worth it.

I have a cold as well, but don't want it to go away just yet. I'd like to make this a 3 day weekend, and I can't bring myself to call in when I'm not sick.

I had a cold all week to, right in the middle of harvest. All the chaff and dust just about killed me and it was very hot to boot. Today is cold and rainy and I'm feelin much better now.

I suspect your alcohol content is down too low. When people say drink lots of fluid, they mean alcohol. Drink up, you won't feel anything, and you won't care if you are sick.

Hope you all feel better.

Day #6 - Finally Feeling Better

I can actually semi-breath through my nose today - what a breakthrough!! Must have been the chicken noodle soup Hubby fixed for lunch yesterday. Or maybe the chicken sandwich from Carl's Jr. he got me for dinner. What's their slogan - without them some guys would die? So would some guy's sick wives - HA!!

I never did take time off work last week - a combination of too much to do; looming deadlines; thinking my cold was just gonna be a couple days of the sniffles; and the way my employeer views sick/vacation days. We don't get them separate - we just get PTO (paid time off). And you cannot take time off unless you have it accrued. I am "saving" up days to take time off at Thanksgiving, so if I took time off for being sick I wouldn't be able to visit family at the holidays, because I wouldn't have enough time to accrue more. They (HR Dept.) say the PTO-thing is supposed to cut down on people calling in sick when they really aren't. But I think it's kinda stupid, 'cause, at least in my case, I came to work when I was sick. Bass Ackwards! Anyway, I'm sure that by tomorrow morning I'll be feeling even better than today, just in time for a brand new work week!!

I know where you are coming from TrekChick, we have the same plan at work. Then they wonder why everyone in the office gets sick and things are getting done like they think they should.

You all need to work for the government. I've been with a local city for about 18 months. I've accumulated around 100 sick hours +/-. Plus I have 2 weeks vacation, 12 paid holidays, and 2 personal days.

I'm finally sick, so I'm going to use some time damnit! Even if I've only barely sick right now.

This works when I get a cold,Get active. Forget laying around feeling like crap,Get moving. If you get active,You don't think about feeling bad,do something that doesnt require thought but just do it,something to get you sweating would be best. It works for me and really cuts the downtime by a lot.
That and you get exercise at the same time. At first you're not gonna wanna get up but trust me,it does work. I never found the whole "Lay in bed all day and feel miserable not to mention stay bored and drink so much you turn the color of the fluid....." Thing to be true.
