hey guys i have a 1980 ford f 150 short bed step side. 2 1/2 true duals all the way. The tail pipes come out under the bumper straight out the back. Right now the tips are 2 1/2 but to me they just look kinda small coming out the back. Thinking of getting some type of 45 degree slash cut tip either 3 to 4 inch. Was wondering if anyone had picks with that size tips or maybe a suggestion what size tips you think would look good. I know its all opinion really but some help would be appreciated, thanks
The larger diameter and longer the tip is, the deeper tone it will have. If you put a 3"x12" tip, you will not notice any difference in sound. On the other hand, if you put a 5"x24" tip, the tone will be deeper and louder. I would reccomend a 3.5"X22" tip, cause it's a good balance between looks and sound quality.
hey thanks, ive had the tips for about 3 years, i had them on my other truck before this one. they get dirty but they still clean up real nice. for cheapo tips they've held up real good.
they also make ones out of stainless steel but they cost about 4 times more.
after looking through the tips ive decided id like to get the magnaflow 22 inch long. 3inch outside diamater tips, there stainless steel, now i just need to find a place to get them as summit racing is out of them lol
With your compression I bet you have a cam, that combo and big tips you may bark. I have 4 1/2" diameter tips straight out the back they bark enough to set car alarms off (neat at 5:00 in the morning).
I agree rolled tips just don't look right but straight wall slash cut in stainless look cool and easy to polish.
hehe yes i have a cam, domed pistons, done up heads intake, the works basicaly. Also custom made 1 3/4 headers with true dual 2 1/2 exhaust all the way back
I made a custom 2 1/2" system with X and Spintech mufflers and it drones 14-1,700 rpm's to the tune of chattering your ear drums. For now I installed 18" long louvered 3" glasspacks that have female ends into the tips, better but made the sound muddy (sucks). I have a pair of Vibtant's Ultra Quiet resonators which are straight thru oval shaped full stainless including the packing that will be added when I have time. Too busy getting ready for winter on the house plus work and a bad back. Meds, hell no I need a drink!
