Hey guys I am back with ?'s on my dads psd. What we have a 1997 Ford PSD with 7.3 turbo diesel 5speed tranny with 265,000 miles we bought the truck and have changed all 8 injectors and the injector/fuel pressure regulator valve,
changed oil and antifreeze, new thermostat. After all the I was told that it needed a flywheel so we had it changed to a single wheel and put new clucth and pressure plate in to the conversion kit.So now my problem is it seems to be running like to was when we bought the truck. Its like there is no power you can start it up and run it to 1500rpm's but once it gets there its like there is know pedal it won't rev past 1500 whats the deal. When we first got the truck we had the injectors changed because guy working on did the buzz test and two were only working so we changed all them after he changed them he drove it about fifteen miles or more and it ran great like it was new but it would not stay idleing.Thats why he changed the injector/fuel pressure regulator valve after he changed that it started up ran just could not drive it because the flywheel shook to much and he said that if you drive one like that it would tear the tranny up so we had the flywheel put in. So today I went to check it out and thats when the guy told me that all he did was back it off the rack and parked and it could not drive because there were no rpms that it would only go to 1500 rpm's.Let me know something my dad is going crazy on this truck we have spent almost $3,000 on this truck just to get it running and now its making him mad that it will not run once he has put all is money in it.Thanks guys.
Wow - and I take it the thing runs just like it did before? I wonder how people like that sleep at night. I hate to jump to conclusions but it sure does sound like the guy was just throwing parts at it to see which one stuck. I'm sure someone here could give you a few ideas on what this issue is. I'd go down and tell him I wanted to see some proof he even put these parts on or I'm calling the police. I'd find it pretty hard to belive the thing was driving along and one day four major parts failed at the same time.
i would get your IDM checked it might be going out, high pressure oil pump, get codes checked to give you somewhere to start if you get codes post them on here and someone can tell you what they are
Hay Hogfan22, I'm not a mechanic at all but It might not hurt to check into a throatal position sensor. I have hered talk about it causing things like this. Good luck man. some one with real knowladge will be along and give some real go info soon. (sorry for the spelling)
hey guys I watch the guy put all the parts on the truck you could tell that the injectors were bad and the regulator he said that he would bring his scanner and look for some codes. He said you could look at it all day and still not get anything unless you have a scanner to get the codes I trust this guy he is my neighbors boy and has work on psd for a long time.thanks guy I will post info later when he comes down. What do you think about put some fresh diesel in it with some injector cleaner. Thanks again.
Well is it running like its only half of the engine running ? I would bet its the valve cover gasket wiring or a inside harness for injectors or glow plugs either will cause computer to shut that whole bank down thus no power or revs. mine was a bad wire rubbed bare under right valve cover last winter and it took the dealer 30 mins to diagnose and was told 300 to fix when i got there it was 225 they got it done 1 hour faster than they thought and i told them about having turbo conn. not lined up on cold side output and they went back and fixed it for me as a favor. i was impressed. they have been very good with service. no matter what i had wrong.
Hey my tech call and told me to pull out the fuel filter and check the plastic rod the it sets on to see if and trash was in there and it was clean and he said that he the fuel was not pushed all the way down with your hand and it is setting lopsided that it will run like it was.So when I pull the top off the filter was not all the way down so I pushed it down put the cap back on and started it up and let it run for 5 min and it ran like a psd should thanks for all the help know my dad is happy.Talk to you later.
All that fuse for a fuel filter, well I'm glad It's found out good thing that's a cheap fix. I get the fleetguard filter's from international, never had a problem.
