I just ordered a set of the Platinum Series (chrome plated stainless) nerf bars for my f150 screw. It says there is no drilling required, but what tools are required?
I never torqued mine, they're still installed tightly... I have the black Westins. The support bracketry mounts to the frame and the step bars. The weight support portion for the bars themselves mount into existing holse within the truck sheetmetal under the cab.
thanks! would you happen to have some pics of the underbody where they are installed? I looked under my truck and do see the holes in the sheetmetal. But you say there are supports that also go on the frame?
I would love to get you some pics... the problem is my cameras have issues. I went to get one, the rechargeable battery was dead, so I got the other... no memory card. I went outside and looked. I was incorrect, the frame doesn't have a direct mounting point on it. Both brackets mount to points stamped into the sheet metal between the frame and door (closer to the frame, though). You drop a bolt through the factory holes in the stamping, line up the brackets and run the lock, washer, and nut up on to the bolt. The mountings on the underside of the door sill has you remove the factory moisture barrier (two rubber grommits 1 front, 1 back). Slide in a backing plate with two welded studs into these holes. Then hook the step to the plate and tighten up the stack -washers and nuts. Then you fasten the support brackets to the ends of the steps, align and tighten all the fastners.
Sorry, I'll get the photos... just not tonight. I have some crappy shots looking at them from when I did my exhaust, but they aren't very helpful in seeing the mountings for the steps.
