we have a 04, 550 withoversized exhaust and towing it's 28k. on flat ground it's great, but ask for power and the boost goes to 35#. this summer we blew two intercooler hoses, one less than 100 miles after it was replaced! we are on our second turbo and are still trying to resolve the problem. just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem? ford says its not reading backpressure in the exhaust properly, but there is no senser in the exhaust. it's in the turbo. i have no chip. milage is about 13 empty(the truck is 12K) and 9 loaded. any help would be great
It's not your turbo -- sounds like you might need to find a different dealership cause yours is throwing parts at your truck. 35#'s is lots for a stock truck. I'm not sure about the EBP being in the turbo--on my 04 it's on the drivers side exhaust manifold near the front/top. Not sure about the new one's since they've changed several things.
the ebp is not in the turbo. it takes a reading from left manifold via a tube. depending on how big your exhaust is, might be the problem. if your not chipped why up size on the exhaust?
yes, I'm sure the boost guage is reading correctly. I was out with the tech for a test drive and he was hooked up while driving. his computer and my boost guage were at most 1# difference. he says that because off low EBP readings it is shuting down the turbo while the boost guage is reading 30 - 35# of boost. the two just don't go together. what I want is a dependable ride for an old retired couple. we are contemplating going back to stock exhaust. jim
