Heys guys, a few weeks ago I was rear ended by a drunk driver. Since my tailgate was down at the time, the tailgate was basically the only thing smashed, except also for the hinge that one side hangs on which was warped a bit. I need to find a nice cheap replacement tailgate, and preferably one that is pre-painted. My ranger is a green color (almost like an aqua marine). And is a 96 2 WD-styleside. I'd appreciate if any of you know a reasonabily priced web site that I can get one off of. Thanks.
I'd think you'd have better luck at a junkyard. Tailgates are big and heavy, so shipping is going to run you quite a bit.
EDIT: If it is a sort of medium-dark aqua marine green, it is probably Cayman green, which might help you while you're looking online. Google it to make sure before you order, though...

Tom, you can get a replacement tailgate at a lot of places like the junkyard or at online retailers but I doubt you find one painted to match your factory color. The site has many sponsors that sell replacements such as Direct Ford Parts, Discount Ford Parts or you can check with partstrain.com. I think parts train has a tailgate as low as $63 but may not be the best of quality as it is $200 cheaper than most new tail gates. Just look around and find what you think is the best deal but remember you will more than likely have to have the new tailgate painted to match your truck's OEM paint color.
While tailgates for Rangers are very abundant, I'm curious as to why you are shopping for one. You got rear ended by a drunk, drunk goes to jail for the night and his insurance pays for your damages (cell phones are nice). If drunk has no insurance then he still goes to jail for DUI and, at least in this state, get's an additional ticket for no insurance. In this case, your uninsured motorist liability pays for your damages and you hit him up in small claims court for your deductible. I guess I'm just confused as to why you are spending time finding parts for this vehicle that seems like it should be in the shop. After all, the (drunken) accident was not your fault. Oh, that drunks insurance should provide you with a rental while your vehicle is in the shop, not a Geo Metro or some cheap oriental model, but a vehicle similar to what you had.
Thanks for advice guys, I'm going to check out the local salvage yards. Even though the insurance company does have to pay for it, I need it fixed soon so I can use my truck, and their sitting on their hands. So, I'm trying to get it fixed fast and can't afford too much. Thanks again.
