Backing it in leaves your front wheels vonerable, and your drive wheels on the ground. Experienced tow truck drivers will pull your driveshaft or manually put your trans into neutral(leaver on side of trans).
They also have rollback wreckers, just drag it up and off they go, plus dolly wheels they can lift the rear wheels up with and don't even have to bother taking it out of gear.
If they are going to tow it, they will be able to tow it unless you bury it in cement. There are always ways to get it done. Disconnecting the DS is one way. What you have described is a total myth.
I have seen thousands of tows in my life, up close and personal. I have seen tow drivers do some amazing things getting cars out of tight spots and up on their rigs.
besides, if it's a repo, they get the VIN from the bank when they get the repo order take it to the ford dealer pull up the info cut a new key get in start it up and drive off not really a problem.
Dawn dish soap is a great friend to have on a wrecker. Handy and enviromentally friendly... lol.
You could set your brakes, park it whatever way you wanted to even sideways.... I can slide a car for yards and yards on dish soap and not even mess up the tread. Done a few... lol.
Yep, had my time as one, if'n I'm told to go get it, it is coming with me. Been chased down the street a time or 2 on PPI's, not my fault they can't make the payments! Now there were, and are questionable wrecker operators out there, and they will tear sh.t up towing it, seen it and fired a few, but....90% of the time it is gettin towed for a reason!
