Well guys....my clutch on the 99 f350 was being pushed an inch to the floor to change gears....so i thought hydraulic and changed out the master and slave. Still had the same issue and pumped the clutch thinking maybe air bubbles...but then heard a snap.....yep, the fork broke. Do not have another car to drive so had it towed to the dealership. They are telling me that when i had the clutch replaced 20k miles ago....it was not put together right and now i have a scarred shaft which needs replaced, along with all the bearings. Anyway....$2k to fix....ouch! My question is though, is it possible for that shaft to scar up that bad?? I thought it just slid into place.
Just venting a little here too....makes me feel better!
Ouch is right.
Are they telling you that you need a whole new pilot shaft? If the rest of the transmission is good, why not just get one of those kevlar bushings that is designed to replace the pilot shaft bearing. From what I have heard you can clean up the scarred shaft, install the bushing in the end of the crankshaft, replace the clutch, etc and reinstall the transmission without having to replace the pilot shaft. Just clean up the scarring on the end of the shaft and run with the bushing from what I have heard.
