84 Bronco Help

I just got a '84 Bronco from a buddy of mine for free. It's in real rough shape. The body is rusted just about everywhere. It has a 302 that starts right up with 154K on it. The problem is that is doesn't shift into gear, and when I try to shift it back to Park, it makes a grinding sound. Anyone have any idea what the problem is? I am used to MT's so I have no idea how to diagnose an AT. My buddy said when he last drove it he couldn't get it over 25mph, but thought it was just a vaccum hose. Could it be a torque converter or a bad trans? Any help would be great. Also, anyone that can give me any specs on the truck would be great. Also it would be great to find a wiring diagram for the ignition system as my buddies son messed with some of the wires by the solonoid and I can't find where one end of a wire (orange w/blue stripe) goes. it is split and one end goes to the positive side of the sol. Again any help to get my deer buggy going would be great!

ok your probably running a C6 in there which has a vacum modulator that controls shifting. I would replace the tranny filter and fill the tranny up with new fluid. check all vacum lines and possibly replace that modulator and see how that treats ya. if your still having problems let us know

Thanks, I'll pick up a Chiltons and make sure the lines are all connected and where the modulator is. You think that is all it is, or just a starting point?
