Hello, I got a '76 Ranchero with a 351M. I got a problem...when I kick it down it has a slight stall before it really kicks in. My distributor had a stuck vacuum advance,so I replaced all that and it still does it. Although it does not backfire from the carb like it used to(it was retimed as well,so that could have been the backfire issue). All I can really think of right now is the timing chain(I still need to check that). Also,it appears that this was originally a 2 barrel carb engine, and someone threw on a Weind 4 barrel intake with a 750 Holley. I dont not believe they swapped heads either. Would that cause a problem like this?
It sounds like a fuel delivery issue... 1. Either the accelerator pump (most likely) or 2. you need to re-jet the carb or 3. the float(s) is/are not set correctly. I would rebuild the carb and jet it correctly to rule out all three.

Check your accelerator pump stroke. That is also a VERY big carb for that engine and may be difficult to tune.
d79's advice is good. Also, is the carb manual or vacuum operated secondaries? If they are manual, the engine just may not be able to handle he sudden opening of the carb. Good luck.
Sometimes people put a cheater screw in the vacuum secondary linkage slot which makes them open prematurely and bog because there is no accelerator pump on the secondaries.
