Does the 4.0 have a timing chain or belt? Searched forums but this phone-line access is too slow...sorry if repeat question.

depends on the year. the older ones have timing chains. The new ones have SOHC which don't quote me, but it might be belt driven.

No, the sohc has timmimg chains, as in more than one.
