Bucking on acceleration?

I have 144,000 on my vehicle. The spark plugs are the Motorcraft Platinum ones and where changed about a year ago, the wires are original. Fuel system is clean and air filter, EGR valve and EGR pressure sensor are new.

For some reason certain times when I put the pedal down the car goes to downshift but doesn't hook up, it starts bucking violently instead until you take your foot off the gas. On other occassions it does not seem to occur.

I have had a check engine light for about 3 months that says the EGR is clogged. I just recently replaced all components of the EGR system including Valve, BPFE sensor, EGR Tube and hoses- but the light is still on.

What else could this be?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

When my truck did that it was time for a tune up. New rotor, cap, wires and plugs cured the problem.

You don't want my opinion of those platinum plugs. lol

Thanks, my mechanic suggested that as well.

Wonder why the EGR code keeps coming up?

Also, did you reset the codes when you replaced the EGR?

The excess unburned gas from the need of a tune up could be triggering a EGR code.

Wanted to add,

You will need to change to oil after the tune up also, the oil may/will be contaminated with unburned fuel if it ran bad enough and cause “code” problems, (do this before clearing the codes).

Ok, I will change the oil.

Don't know if I need to reset the codes as the battery was disconected when I installed the pressure feedback sensor.

Is disconnecting the battery the best way to reset the codes?

The light was off for about 30mi after I hooked everything back up then it came back on.

Disconnecting the battery will reset the codes.
