Its good to be here as this is my first post on the forums. I've spent most of my time reading and learning from the forums. I would like to say there is a lot of good info in the forums.
Now on to the situation at hand. I have a '05 F-250 SD 4X4 with a 6.0L that is having problems starting up in fact does not start at the moment. The only mods done the truck is a K&N cold air intake and filter. It currently has 43k miles on it. The oil change was done on 39k. The fuel filter is due to be change at 50k. Any help or ideas would be grateful. Oh! forgot to say that the truck has been taken back to Ford for the recall on the mileage that it was getting ( 9 miles to the gallon, currently 16 mpg). This problem hits me at the wrong time as we use this truck for work, right in the middle of a big job.
There is a 1" round plug below the lower pulley(harmonic balancer). It takes an allen wrench to remove. There is a spring and piston behind there(not much pressure). The piston should move freely, if not, remove and using very fine sandpaper, remove any burrs from the bore and piston. Make sure the both are clean, and reinstall after lubricating well with oil. That is the regulator for oil pressure. If still no start, you're gonna need your dealership.
Thank you sir for the information, but the tow truck has carted the truck over to dealership. The information will come handy the next this should occur. This is my first desiel truck so i'm a to all the ins and outs of the 6.0L. Oh! well looks like Ford Dealership get some more of my money.
Oh yeah, welcome to fte. There is a lot of information here. You might use the 6.0 forum later for any more questions. Its a little lower in the forum list. I am one of several techs that cruise around.

Viony,
Your advice is always well thought out and helpful so please don't take exception to the following as I only wish to keep someone from damaging the piston or bore.
As a retired precision machinist, I would recommend only "Crocus Cloth" (extremely fine abrasive cloth) for any burr removal. Very fine to a house painter might be 150 grit.
well i can say that the service department at the Ford Dealership is clueless. The next morning they started the truck right up. Could not find any codes in the system. Hmmm looks like i'm gonna have to do what Vloney has requested. The tech said that the engine has to have oil pressure inorder for the injectors to work. I'll to that! Also confirmed that when we went to start it. After 45 seconds the oil pressure came up and the truck started. I just keep wondering why did the tech just go ahead and fix it? hmmm HE DOESN"T know! Oh well!

P.S. No charge at the dealership but the tow truck yeap had to pay that one
I did what u ask and i'm still getting that problem. This continues to be a problem that is not good. I have researched it some more on the threads and it looks like i got a HEIU problem. Now the big problem is getting Ford Service Department to fix it. Hopefully it will covered under the warrenty. If not I will have to make a difficult decision in keeping it or trading it.
I would have them take a look at the lpop. Have them remove it and check a spring that is in behind it. If they have to pry the pump off the spring is bad. We have a friend who has had the same problems your are having. He started with the same symptoms you are describing. He thought it was other things also. He is stranded in Iowa right now and lives in TN. This bad spring has been the culprit for many problems he has had with his injectors. What did the tech say the lpop pressures were?

just more info on the problem i'm having: it will not start if the engine is hot. i can wait 4-5 hrs and it will start. The one thing that i have noticed is that when it cold (engine) it take more cranking from the starter to get to fire up. hope this narrows the problem down abit
