I have a 2000 5.4 f250, with the 5 speed manual. The truck has 65000 miles on it and the throwout bearing is making alot of noise I was wondering when I put a new clutch in do I have to put in a new pressure plate or can I get away with just using a disk and a throwout bearing. Thanks
The proper way is to replace dics, pressure plate,t bearing.
Also pilot bearing in the flywheel.and if the clutch has been sliping have the flwheel resurfaced.
The spring fingers on your p plate has 61k of wear on them.
Rich
I wouldn't try it ,like I said the springs get weak and don't provide the pressure as when they are new.also they sometimes get a groove worn in them from the throwout bearing.
And why would you want to "get away with it," anyway?
If you're all the way in there already to change the driven disc, do the job right.
I have not done a clutch job on a SuperDuty. Are these parts super expensive or something? I have done the job on my '84 F250 a couple of times, and the pressure plate was not expensive.
BTW, I see that FortyFords stated that the pilot bearing is in the flywheel, thats good. In my old '84 F250 with the 5.8, the pilot bearing is press fit into the crankshaft. I tried removing it with a cheap, soft metal bearing pulling attachment, and I butchered it, leaving a mangled bearing still in the crankshaft. What a mess that turned out to be. That's when I learned my lesson about using cheap tools.
Its farely expensive, I talked to a parts guys from ford and it was like $200. I was just wondering if it was alright or not i have never done a clutch on a superduty before.
