I was wondering if any one has added the underhood insulation to their trucks and if it cut down some of the noise. Also I wondered if this would cause any added problems to the problem of turbo heat after shut down by keeping more heat in the engine compartment. Thanks, loving my first diesel!
The hood blanket, glove box light, rear wheel inner splash guards, and a couple of other itemss were deleted as a cost cutting move...I think 01/02/2005 prodution dates. Many have added the blanket...with no negative results.
I did right after I bought my 04 and noticed it didn't have it. Did it on the internet out of Texas...Bought the plastic holders from PepBoys. I thought it made a differance. With the recall it became noisey so now I don't know...It might be worse without it. Good Luck
I added a hood liner and extra light to my truck and it does quiet the noise a little I'm going to put something similar to Dynamat but has heatsheild also. I've got a project going now to quieten down the entire truck. I'll keep picutes for everyone that is interested.
If it made a difference on mine it was minimal. I did it mostly to keep the heat off the paint of the hood. Just for peace of mind, and I think it probably is worth it. If you do buy it, shop around. You can install, it is a breeze.

Ditto. I used Dynamat Xtreme (the kind meant to insulate against both sound and heat) under the hood. Didn't notice any attenuation of engine noise, but the hood temperature dropped 50 degees directly above the turbo.
On a 90+ degree day I couldn't touch the hood after a romp on the freeway. After the blanket install there was a great difference. it was still hot but I could hold my hand on it. This has to help the paint live a happier life.
I have to agree that mostly it makes a difference on heat. I'm putting the thicker material over where the turbo is located. The next item for sure is between the headliner. I put a temp gauge in the little overhead compartment and it measured 119F today. I can only imagine what the Arizona guys deal with. I am trying to sound proof the cab a little better since I spend so much time driving.

Just curious how that's holding up for you. Does the "supercharged" adhesive maintain it's grip pretty well. The Dynamat Ultimate has a designated "under hood" (butyl) adhesive. What were your reasons for choosing the Xtreme over the Ultimate? Price? Easier Install? I'm looking to shield my hood a bit also and am open to all suggestions.
I added the factory hood blanket and it seemed to lower the noise levels. If nothing else, it'll keep your paint from being cooked. The blanket (also glove box light, door courtesy lights, hood seals, among others) used to be included, but was dropped as a cost cutting measure by Ford. Add the hood blanket and Dynamat to your doors and you'll really notice a difference.
Jetmek...I got the underhood stuff for mine actually by accident. I think it's a little thicker and isn't supposed to break down as easy. There is another brand called SecondSkin that I'm thinking of trying on the inside. Anybody have comments on that brand?
