harvey,,,,, i've already thought of the HPOP being low of oil,, would the low pressure pump be the problem with only 57,000 well maintained miles.
I tested the batterys with my Snapon battery tester
Well, with only 57K, I would not think that the LPOP would be going out already...but I've seen stranger things happen. I doubt it's the problem, but I wouldn't completely rule it out just yet. Symptoms are what happens when the LPOP is beginning to fail. I'd just test it, so you can rule it out. Get a mechanical gauge, install it where the oil pressure sensor is now (top of the HPOP res), and watch it while an assistant cranks. Do this before the first start of a day, when the truck typically has trouble starting. Watch the pressure, and if it takes some time to build, then suddenly fires, you may have found your problem.
Before you do that though, you can remove the sensor and look down in the resivoir before first start to be sure it is full of oil.
If you didn't do it already, try what Dan suggested, and load test the batteries individually.
when i replaced my starter the truck started up like it was brand new. now after 3 months, its a lot slower to start up. how can i get my truck to start up like it was brand new? also when i replaced the batteries the truck started up quick too, then gradually started more slowly.
got in it this morning , crank crank and no start. changed the batterys and it started right up. felt really great that problem was solved. BUT,,, about 3 hours later while driving in town started loosing power, missing. DASS me, realized aux. tank in bed was empty, switched to main tank. it never died but after 10 miles still misses, shakes the whole truck sometimes. any ideas ???
Good the starting issue is worked out. I'd say air in the lines is causing the shaking. It can take some time to work it's way out. Give it 100-200 miles.
I cant prove it but after getting up close and personnal trying to learn the electrics of the powerstroke I believe that other than just a weak battery draining the good one a short at the cell level of one battery can cause a ground loop and really cause havoc with the computer control systems. A cell level short can be very hard to find and diagnose as sometimes the only indication being a slight drop in amperage output depending on the health of the other cells.
yes ,,, changing the batterys did it . did a load test after both batt disconected 1 batt checked 12+ volts, 1 checked 6+ volts. this load test was done after 18 hours with out being started and 2 long cranking trys.
