I Replaced My Filter Today And As Usual I Had A Little Trouble Getting The Top Of The Box To Fit Back On. In The Process, I Broke One Of The Slots The Tab FROM THE TOP Is Supposed To Fit Into. Do I Need To Worry About A Good Seal And If So Should I Just Replace The Whole Thing With An Aftermarket Unit?
My recommendation is loss the stock box and filter all together. Many 7.3 owners here have seen engines and turbos dusted due to ill fitting factory filter boxes. A lot of members here use NAPA 6637 open air filter as a replacement. I will offer you all the air your engine can use and is very inexpensive. ($20-40) and last for 20k or more. Do a search for 6637 or Kwik filter on search feature here. Very easy to do.
EDIT: Wecome to FTE. Hang around here and you will learn things about your truck you never knew. Welcome aboard. You will also want to check out the forum just for the 7.3's. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum31/
The stock box doesn't seal very well when it's installed correctly and not broken. It definitely will be worth your time to check out some of the aftermarket alternatives.
Ford's AIS heavy duty air filter system is around $200. Not sure how it compares to other systems, but I like it. I think I got it from powerstrokeshop. Others have gone from the 6637 filter to the AIS. Ask Kwik if he noticed any differences (besides being quieter). It takes about 30 minutes to swap out.
