At least in some cases they can. Several things I've needed for my 70 F-100 weren't available at the auto parts store, they said 'dealer item'. I went to the dealer and was able to get some of them (breather cap, for example). They actually had to dust off the ancient paper manuals as the computer didn't have the info. For other stuff that nobody seemed to have I've used LMC with success. I'll try BOTP next.
Just called the dealership and I was told, "Trucks too old, not in the computer." And we all know that if it's not in the computer then it doesn't exist.

Yeah, you're not going to have much luck if they're not willing to step away from the computer and dust off the old catalogs. Maybe some of the younger guys have never even seen that done...
Try National Parts Depot web site. They have on line catalog with just about everything for your truck. I've ordered several items and I'm happy with what I got.
try www.dennis-carpenter.com they have reproductions made from original ford tooling..it is more $$ but worth it..i have bought alot of stuff from them for my 72 and have never had any problems. if it isin't in the catalog just call they might be able to tell you where you can find it
