2.3 Engine
Does anyone know what year ranger started using the 8 spark plug 2.3 4 cylinder. Also, are there any differences between the 2.3 fuel injected from 1986 and 1991. I found a 1991 and was thinking of replacing the cooked motor on my 86 4x4.

IIRC the 8 plug head was first introduced in '89 when EDIS was introduced. '89-up 2.3ls had roller cams, and the main journal size was reduced in '88. An '88 would work fine, anything newer will not, the boss in the block for the distributor was sealed when EDIS came into production. FYI, late production '85s also had EFI, but you can use the block from back as far as you want, as long as you use your truck's head.

So the motor out of the 91 won't drop into the 86 2.3 spot? Was hoping to do a fairly clean swap out.
