My truck has recently developed the disconcerting habit of having the passenger door pop open at the most inoportune times. Initially this would occur very infrequently, but on a 50 mile trip the other day, the door began flying open about every two miles. Admittedly, I was driving on backroads, but this is new. I can't find anything apparently wrong with the latch mechanism. It came on too fast to be wear, but just gradually enough (a month or so) that I don't think anything broke suddenly either. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts?
Take a real close look at the striker and latch. You may have more wear in those areas than you think. Could also be the hinges but try the more likely problems first. You haven't been doing any ditch hoppin have you?
Did you have a rusty cab support that finally "shifted"? Is the linkage from the inner door handle to lock too tight? Little things will cause troubles here....!
Well, a couple of the suggestions here have helped (I think). I adjusted the striker plate AND I took the the inner door handle and linkage out. It appears to have worked, but I haven't used the truck much since. Per my typical mode I've done two things and will never know which was the problem if it is fixed. The lock linkage is messed up though, that's why I took the linkage out, so that's a real likely culprit. Thanks to all.
