I have a 1984 f-250 4x4 and want to swap in a dana 60 in the front. What years will work for the truck? I know that the 70's will not work, but what about anything after 86?
From what I understand, any Dana 60 from 86.5 on up to 97 will work without any trouble. Just make sure you use the springs that came off the truck with the axle or use at least a 2.5" leveling kit for the front springs. The reverse arch springs that the F-250's have will not work and cause the axle housing to hit the front crossmember. Some of the guys in the offroading section have done this swap and they say that it's a simple weekend project with no fabrication.
its a direct bolt in swap. all the holes line up, only thing yuou will have to look into is the driveshaft. the D60 has a longer pinion then the 50 so your shaft will need to be cut down prolly 3-4" depending
actually, hoss got real close, any 60 from 85.5 to a 97 will fit but the best years were those with king pins. they are stronger then ball joints and will out last them. they were found in years 85.5 to 91, after that they went to ball joint
