A/C clutch or compressor

ok i have noticed for a while now that my A/C clutch makes a rattling noise, and i cant decide if i should replace the clutch or the whole compressor. my expy is at 115k miles, and i have read that it is common for the compressors to lock up after a while. I have a buddy that is licencened who would change the compressor for some beer.

Ask your buddy who's licensed to take a look at it. He's the one who will be doing the work.

FWIW, I'd just go for the clutch unless there was an indication that the compressor was faulty which you have not given.

if the compressor is rattling when engaged then it is the compressor. if the rattling noise is constant then i would go for the clutch pulley combo.

it is the clutch assymbly that is rattling, but i read that it is pretty common for the a/c to also lock up which eventually will cost a whole lot more money to fix becasue that could effect other components of that system. thanks for the help
