hey guys. I'm sittin here @ the dealership because my belt is close to coming off. About 2 weeks ago this same shop fixed my idler pulley and replaced my belt. so when I noticed the belt coming off...thought i'd bring it right back to them.
they showed me the tensioner and said it's 'crushed'. do you guys agree woth t is being a $250 job?

the tensioner, no, that's an easy job to get off. $250 wouldnt be so bad if the part itself was 200 dollars. it's right under the AC compressor. remove the belt, and the four or five bolts holding the bracket to the block, it's that simple

That seems a little high to me. A ford tensioner runs around $80.00, I bought a gates tensioner for just a little under that at my local parts store, and it only takes about 10 minutes to change, and that is a relaxed time. I just replaced mine about two weeks ago, mine actually flew off, seems the big washer that holds the darn thing on, wore out and decided to leave it's position. Makes a really nice zzzziiiinnnggg, going across the pavement around 40mph.

One bolt and 2 alignment pins on the back the unit itself...I just did mine last night in about 15 minutes...When/if you get the new one from ford there is a little black bar on the bottom side tensioner that you remove once the tensioner is in place...Be sure to have the breaker bar holding tenison on the unit when you pull the bar off, or you will loose a finger...(NOTE: Dont pull that bar off until the unit is installed)That bar is there for ease of bolt installation before you put tension on the belts...
