I have a 96' F-250 SC with 185,000 mi. My fuel tank sending units are sending me weird readings. When I fill my tanks ( with veggie oil and diesel combo) the guage goes past full mark almost twice as far and does not move until I have about 1/4 tank left then it moves like normal as fast as I burn the 1/4 tank ( from full to empty that fast) what is strange it happened in both tanks.
Both sending units are probably OK, most likely the gage.
It's unlikely the both sending units went bad at the same time but here are the resistance reading of the senders. The selector valve contains all the wires going to the dash. The rear tank wire is yellow with a light blue tracer, the front tank is dark blue with a yellow tracer.
With the sending unit float arm in the empty stop position, resistance should be 15 ohms (below E).
With the sending unit float arm in the full stop position, resistance should be 160 ohms (above F).
The fuel gauge should read empty at 22.5 ohms and full at 145 ohms.
