Got my first ticket in over ten years tonite. Apparently, I was driving without tail lights or brake lights. After receiving a $75 ticket, I of course checked to see if the lights were operating. Brakes lights work fine if tail lights are not turned on.
Again. With the head/tail lights off, the brake lights work. With the head/tail lights on, the tail lights don't work and neither do the brake lights.
Where do I start?
(Besides the fact that I'll stick to daytime driving for a while...)

So I pulled the fixtures out of the bed, and visually inspected some rotten looking grounds. The wire looks OK, but the spot on the body where they ground is rusting away...jiggled the wires, and presto! Seems to work again. I'm thinking I'll run some new ground wire maybe even to the frame on the weekend.
Dear Lord, could they just work for a few days?????
Without the tail lights on, both brake lights work.
With the tail lights on, stepping on the brake pedal causes the left rear light to brighten as it should, but also causes the right rear light to go out.
i had a similar problem on my 78 f100 . check the bulb sockets them self. they might have some corrosion in them. i ended up replacing them and the they work as advertized. you can get new sockets at advanced or autozone for about 10.00 or 12.00 bucks each.
Mil1on Can you tell me the name of the book that flow chart came from? I am trying to track down multiple wiring issues in a recently purchased 1976 F100. Thanks much.
i've had to replace the sockets in every ford truck ive had...the groud rusts out easily. The other problem ive had with the lighting is the ground on the light swtch going, and replacing that is the only way.
