A4LD Question
rebuilt by a well recomended shop. My question concerns the shifting points
from 1-2 and 2-3. The transmission when cold, shifts from 1-2 between
3500 and 4000 rpm, and goes to 3rd at 3000 rpm. This is a higher speed
than it would shift before the rebuild. When warm the 1-2 shift ocours at
3000 rpm, and 2-3 at 3000 also. Has anyone else noticed this after a
rebuild? All other functions of the transmission are normal, but the excessive
revs are worrisome. I'd appreciate any comments.
time I have had a transmission rebuilt, and if I need to take it back to them, I
wanted to get an idea if it would be a correctable problem, or something that will
go away with breaking in. It seems to be operating correctly in all other ways.
I'll give it another day or two, it seems to be doing a little better today.
The behaviour of your trans sounds similar to the performance of mine after I had it rebuilt. Seems like it holds the revs longer to warm up quicker or somethiong. There are quite a few mods made by a good transmission shop to these transmissions when they are rebuilt so it's no surprise that it will act a little differently. Mine still leaks around the vacuum modulator a small amount even after the rebuild, despite everyones best efforts. I just put up with it. However I can tell when the ATF is even the slightest bit low, even 50 or 60 millilitres. The shifts are sloppy and the converter doesn't seem to lock up quite as quickly.
Good luck!
