Brake booster spacing

Ok I have started my power disk brake upgrade and all ready ran into a small problem.
When attempting to mount the booster I found that the flat bar going to the booster from the peddle was about 5/8" to long. I made some spacers and was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem?
I used a 77 booster on my 65.

It is working I was just wondering if this has been an issue with anyone else.

I hooked it into the exsisting drum brakes because the demensions between the disc brake master and the drum master were the same.(I have been running a 70 split cylinder drum drum not the old single)

What a differrance with this booster, no need to put any muscle into it any more or I may end up with whiplash...It kind of feels like my Taurus with the exception of anti-lock.

Spindles and disk next weekend....yeeehawww

I used a 76 booster and came across same issue. Puchased short piece of 1/2" alum square stock cut 2 pieces approx. 3" and drill 2 holes for the bolts for each side. Alum easy to cut and drill. Found it worked perfect.

Jon, It has been 5-6 years, but I drilled a hole in the flat bar, I believe 1 1/8" back and it dropped the pedal. See if you can clamp it with a vise grip before drilling.

Thanks Guys I feel much better.
I hate it when it seems like stuff like this only happens to me...hehehe

I think I will make a spacer out of Alluminum it seems easier than crawling under the dash again, but come to think of it I will be under there again any how...I think I have a peace of Allum at work that will work perfect.

Again thanks gentlemen

I drill a new hole on the flat bar and install the plastic bushing and adjustable (excentric bolt). That way it wont rattle and I can fine tune the pedal height. I use a 1/2 inch bit and work it from there with a smooth round file. Drill the new hole next to the original and leave about 1/8 th inch thickness between the new hole and the orifginal. You can swap and mix brake pedal arms and get the wide pedal from an automaticto fit nicely.

My pedal allready sets just a bit below my clutch peddle and I would hate to see it get closer to the floor boards would like to keep the same pedal height so I think I am going with the spacer since drilling a new hole would lower my pedal.

Thanks guys

Jon, I retained my original pedal, and when I started out, it was pushed really far forward. I presumed that you were having the same issue.

Sounds like your's is very different.

I think you will have a very touchy braking system. Leaving the pedal high gives you the wrong brake pedal ratio. In addition to shortening the bar, you need to lower the bar mount hole on the brake pedal arm an inch. The brake pedal should sit just a bit above the accelerator pedal. Power drum/drum is a great system but you really need to be sure you have the correct components. The splitter and MC is diferent on a drum/drum verses disk/drum.

Purchased what was going to be a donor 65 where the previous owner had already made the upgrade. Drove it for several years while working on the other 65 and copied the upgrade using the spacers. Was not aware of FTE at the time so did not know any better. Anyhow, have been driving both for several years, the peddles appear fine to me but being short slightly higher would be a plus, nor do they seem too touchy or spongie. Used the proportion valve from truck booster came from. Also modified an adapter and using the original pressure brake switch setup. Guess without having anything to compare to the upgrade appears fine to me.
