Where is the best place to get a timing chain, tensioner, and guides. Should i change the sprockets to. Someone once told me to always change the sprockets when changing the chain cause the old one was worn to fit the sprockets and if you put a new chain on it will sound loud cause the old sprockets have to wear to a new chain? Also where is the best place to get new bolts to replace the torque to yeild ones. Are they only available from the stealership? Last, where is a good place to get a gasket set for rebuilding the engine. Sorry for the long post, just trying to get things in order for my 5.4 rebuild and need some help on finding parts at a decent price. Any info on parts for the rebuild would be great. thanks
Any auto parts store should be able to get the parts for you. AutoZone carries Felpro gaskets and bolts too. They had the bolts for a 3.8L T-bird that has the torque to yeild bolts as well.
Is there anywhere on the internet that would be have better quality or better price on the parts or does the local auto parts store have them for a decent price? Thought like most things there might be somewhere on the internet that someone knew about with the best price. thanks
One of the site sponsors, Rock Auto, has decent prices on just about everything. They also carry Motorcraft parts. You might check them out. I've ordered from them several different times and have not been disappointed yet.
Thanks guys. Should i get the timing set, i would assume it somes with the sprockets for the cams and crank and the chain, tensioner, and guides? It is just over 200 so that's not a bad price for a new set if it comes with all that stuff. Thanks
