Rough idle andrough running

i have a 96 f-350 that runs rough down the road. i have to have it floored to get to 45 mph,this is fast i can go. i replaced the wiring under the driver side vc,and helped for about 10 minutes then the same thing.the i plug that plugs into vc gasket is melted on the glow plug pin.it is hard starting,the rpm gauge goes to 100 when starting. when running in idle it is vey rough and making a sound like rapping ,like a rod going. any ideas. did not change passenger side vc gasket or wiring. i am lost on this problem. i like my truck

pull both vc's and see what you got. unless you know someone who can buzz test ya.
once you got em pulled look for burnt stuff and then start it and watch the oil spouts for oil.
