Just wanted to inform anybody that has a sloppy shifter on their 92-96 automatic that fixing it is really quite easy. Also, if the shifter tube and plunger are replaced, the updated tube has reliefs cut into it so that the tube bushings don't slip out over time (like my old ones did). The job isn't hard at all and I didn't realize how sloppy my shifter was until I fixed it.
I followed Frederic's instructions for removing the column (they were easier than the shop manual instructions) and they worked great.
Thanks again Frederic for your reply with the instructions.
Glad it worked out for you and I'm pleased my instructions were quite useful.
Sometimes I worry about the advice I give because often, I post way past the downward turn of my caffienation level and most of the time I post from the top of my head.
So glad you didn't blow up your truck following my advice
