Looking to buy some new speakers.. I keep looking at the JBL GTO line of speakers, since it seems is between some of the few 2ohm speakers out there. I know the usual rule is, two times less resistance = two times more power with most amps, but that's because most amps are stable at 2ohms... anyone try running the factory deck with 2ohm speakers?
I would say no almost for sure, and if you use the stock deck its only putting out about half the rms wattage as an aftermarket deck which means the speakers will sound like crap. The best speakers I have ever heard is the infinity kappa's and there not badly priced

kinda figured out it wouldn't be...
i've had component infinitys (6800cs) in one of my mustangs, and hate to say it, i'm never buying an infinity speaker again... my cell phone has more bass than them. nice highs though, definately would get some tweeters from them...
ended up picking up an amp and a set of used coax boston acoustics speakers for the back. just need to get some nice component speakers up front and i'll be set I think... until i get the itch for another subwoofer again, that is.
Fosters,
The local Tweeter's has Boston Pro 60's at 1/3 off so I assume all Tweeter stores are doing the same since they're dropping BA speakers. Thay are a great sounding component set for the front doors and your rear Boston's would compliment them.
I am not sure why JBL makes a 2ohm speaker,I am sure the HU will run it
but dont expect double power, besides your lucky to get 10 watts from it in any configuration....
If you want to upgrade the speakers I would go for it,but if you want really good SQ
youll need a real HU and an amp...
At two ohms the stock head unit wil heat up real quick. It will not take long to fry it. There are still some aftermarket amps that are not two ohm stable and a factory head unit is deffinitly not going to last long at two ohms.
Besides it not lasting long, the stock HU would start to do some major clipping too. Don't even try to run a 2ohm speaker off of it. Now the Infinity's are nice and have good bass response (I don't know what you're talking about on that..) but they're not exactly the best you could get for that price.

i had the 6800cs components... they had absolutely no bass. maybe the newer kappa series are better, but the reference were bad in the bass department... the highs, that was a totally different deal...
I ended up getting an alpine amp that's stable at 2 ohms, 50x4 at 2ohm load, gonna get a line converter and hook it up to it, if it still sounds bad and can't dial it in, i'll get another head unit... I really don't wanna do that though as i'd like to keep it stock looking to thieves... Gonna take out a pair of JL audios (or both) from the mustang and put them in here, a track car doesn't need speakers anyway... hehe. When i have money for the JBL components, i'll buy two pairs and move speakers around again...
