FLUTTER?

Exhaust resonance?

Lifted her already?

High center the girl and prang the drive shaft?

Auto or manual?

First and easiest thing to check anytime you have a vibration is tire pressure, or wheel weights. I used to do a lot of offroading and if you knock a weight off in the rocks, or you're carrying mud in your wheels you'll think you've got a drive line problem. If your truck sits with the sun shining on one side the temperature will affect the tire pressure on one side (not kidding) and you'll have a shudder.

No Fred,no lift everything is stock Automatic transmission.I don't know about the exhaust part, would you possibly get that at that speed? Ace, I put my air pressure at 65 psi, according to my door sticker, but I will check if there is any missing weights, thanks guys.

At 40-45MPH, any vibrations I've had were wheel related.

You might want to take off the front wheels, and rotate 180 degrees and put back on. I've had a few vehicles that were pretty picky about the hub-to-wheel orientation.

Maybe see if a tire shop will do an "on the vehicle" balance for it. Or the dealer, if you don't want to pay for it

I am thinkig Exhaust resonace ("flutter") because of the description on where felt.... rotating brake and wheel imbalance is usually felt in streering wheel and butt... foot on throttle or foot on pass floorboard "feel" sounds to me like hopw mine feels when just at the right load, RPM, and speed... deep rumble almost too low frequency to hear by ear but can feel it in feet...

Other question were to eleiminat other typical "vibration" sources...

A drive shaft out of balance or installed improperly can do this right at one very nearo RPM zone also

And Krewat has a good point for two reasons... one the wheels can be picky... I have not noticed it too much with the 8 lug wheels but the 5 lug were bad for vibration that wheight would not fix... and don't forget that some tries will not balance no matter what and it does happen a lot with factory tires...

Ford is also bad for crap alignment on fresh out the door trucks... I always complain and get the Free 4 wheel alignment between 3 and 6 months old

Thanks much Fredvon, and Krewat.Does Ford offer this alignment for free, being I just purchased the truck 3 months ago? Also,if it is the exhaust flutter,is there a fix,or not? thanks again,Al.

It's definitely a warranty issue, so I would certainly call the dealer and get them to look at it.

You might fight the "not reproducible" thing, but at least it's documented.

Let Ford re-balance the wheels

I had a pretty good vibration at 56-57mph in my truck. I put up with it for about 1200 miles, after checking for thrown weights and trying different tire pressures.

I took it in to the dealer and asked them to check it out. Well, they balanced three tires (those were within .5 ounce) and re-indexed the fourth. They explained that it would have taken waaaay too many wheel weights, so a re-index was in order.

In my case, all turned out extremely well! Smooth as glass. Now that gas prices have dropped, I can't get my wife back in the Explorer. She loves the Three-Fiddy!

Kind of undocumented ....well not really it is hidden deep in the warranty but Ford will do ONE free alignment in first 12 months...but only on customer complaint

Look for a shop that sends the big trucks out to a real alignment house.. their standard shop equipment usually will not do "thrust axle" (rear alignment)... many times on the F250 through F750 the rear axle is off a bit to the left causing a wander right tendency... I also do not like the factor idea of setting toe in on the "plus" side expecting longer wear before out of spec

And like above many times (probably 40% or more) the factory tires are out of round, out of balance or just crap tires....

I still think it is a drone "resonance" (flutter) in the exhaust system

Most all the suspension or drive line stuff you feel in butt and hands

Sorry for all the bad grammer and mis spelling above...was in a hurry and did not proof

I gonna throw this out there to ya! make sure that one of your front hubs isn't either locked in or stuck locked in.
We have seen this in the past ,maybe kids playing around or the new hubs will stick until they get worn in.Just chk it and turn the front axles by hand to verify that both sides are unlocked.

Thanks Rich,I will check. I just got home from work and I checked the tire pressures.Fronts were 64 & 64.5 psi. the backs were 62 & 63 psi. The door sticker says 65 psi cold, and the tires were hot when checked,so I would say they were even lower in psi, when cold. I just recently did the pressures to 65 not long ago.I will drive tomorrow, and get back if that helped when reaching 45 mph, thanks to all.

Hey Rich, get this. Now not saying this was the problem as of yet,but I went outside to check the hubs, and low and behold the hubs were locked in . I never turned them to the lock position, though I have used the 4wd slightly.I imagine this has hurt my mpg avg. I would say they have to be in the AUTO position on the hub? I have the SOF switch on the dash also. Hey thanks for the info, don't know yet if it was the vibration or not yet, Damm kids

It won't hurt the MPG much if at all... They should be in the AUTO position.

As to why the front drivetrain vibrates at 45MPH, well, that's a subject for another thread

TRY IT OUT AND LET US KNOW!!!!
