1st fluid and filter changes
When I broke in the dearly departed (not soon enough) Dmax, the folks on the forum I frequented recomended changing fluid in both diffs, the engine oil/filter and the Ally's filter all in the 500 - 1000 mile range.
So should I pop in a new filter for the TS at 1K miles too? any AR advice about the early diff maintenance? (I have the LSD rear).
Thanks, it'd be nice to get a rough concensus on this and post it to the tech folder....

I would suggest changing your oil and oil filter as the sooner you get the factory fill out and any "stuff" that is floating in their out as well. This motor likes clean/fresh oil of the proper viscosity and would probably use 15W-40 a little longer... but a API rated CI4+ diesel rated synthetic is OK too.
They tranny is suggested at 30,000 miles and if your towing maybe do it at 20,000 miles if it makes you feel good. The tourqeshift uses Mercon SP synthetic fluid (only) and it is great stuff!!! With the by-pass filter that Ford has on it, you are getting better filtration anyways.
As far as the fron and rear diffs, the fronts are only used when in 4WD... so I would just do at 50,000 miles if not using 4WD on a regular basis.
The transfer case I did at 50,000 miles when I did my second transmission service (I do every 25,000 miles instead of 30,000).
The rear I did 2 weeks ago at 78,000 miles. It uses only synthetic fluid and is also good stuff. Makes sure you use trhe weight/viscosity that Ford recommends. Add friction modifier if you have "limited slip". I do not tow that much, but the fluid looked great and it showed minimal wear metals on the magnetic drain plug. My dealer tech said that limited slip rear diffs need it before non limited slip and that he would go with 50,000 miles just to be safe. As I stated, I did at 78,000 miles and the fluid looked great... so use your best judgement.
The more you tow and the "heat issue" plays into what makes you feel good. It is very clear that Ford has done their homework by using synthetic tranny fluid and synthetic rear-differential fluid. Due to "marketing considerations" they claim "lifetime" rear-diff fluid, which any owner would know is not in the best interest of their truck if they work it hard and plan on keeping it for many years and many miles!!!
Good luck and enjoy... I do!!

Look for the ID sticker on your door jamb and look at the code for rear axle and match it up to the type of rear-end you have per the listing of codes at the link above.
Hope this helps... great link to save as a "favorite".
I'll go with your advice and just do the engine oil/filter now and call it good... Thanks again!
