Wrong Fuel Filter? (2000 3.0 FFV)
Checked underneath so I'd know what I was getting into, and found what was clearly an aftermarket filter that was plastic, and had three connections (two input lines, and one output line). It was not properly secured, it had a 5/16" bolt molded into the body that should have secured it to the chassis frame.
Went to the nearby Checker Auto Parts, and found all the fuel filters carried for my engine only had two connections, one input and one output!
However, all the filters listed for the non-FFV 3.0 engine had three connections. I saw no alternative (couldn't exactly leave a fuel line hanging!) so I got one of these non-FFV filters. It fit fine.
Has anyone experienced this? I definitely have a "VIN V" engine and all indications of a FFV engine (including the sticker on the gas door). I've read other posts that indicate the correct fuel filter is hard to find for the FFVs (Fram doesn't even list one), but the "correct" one won't fit!
The filter should be a 3 connection type, one input, one evaporator line, and one line to the engine. The brake line should fit into the metal bracket that comes with it, and the bolt goes on the frame. I had problems getting the brake line to come out of that bracket - didn't want to bend or kink it. I also had problems getting the fuel lines off, but that was more out of fear of getting a face full of fuel rather than snapping the lines. Why they chose to put the fuel filter in such an inconvenient place I'll never know.
