AC install / rebuild

OKay - I asked this in the AC forum and got no help. I am planning on at least starting the install this weekend. I know this is the wrong forum but here goes.

I got a complete AC for a mid 70s truck in today and everthing looks prety good. The seller even cut out a piece of the donor firewall as a template. I have a few questions though.

1) I should replace the dryer?
2) The compressor is a York and I don't know how long it has been off or how much oil is in it. Should I drain out the oil and replace it with the correct volume? What is that volume and what type? How do you drain and fill the oil?
3) The spounge like insulation on the flapper doors in the box is failing so what should I replace it with?
4) The black gook (Insulation?) on the expansion valve is somewhat missing so what should I replace it with and where can I get it?
5) I have printed out the vacuum diagrams and the electrical diagrams but I still don't know where some of the parts go. I have a big ball with two vacuum ports on it - WHERE does it go and how is it connected?
6) Has anyone used HC-12a in a system? It should be less dangerous than R134a and it has the advantage of having greater efficiency.

I am sure I will think of something else shortly but this is a start - Thanks.

1. Yes, definately
2. It would not hurt to make sure you have the correct volume of oil, much less to make sure you have oil period.
3. You can probably find that insulation at a refrigeration wholesaler, the same as the black insulation for the expansion valve.
4. The big ball sounds like the vacuum reservoir, it mounts on the drivers side inner fenderwell on my 77 F-250.
