Thats the reason I am looking at putting a gauge in I pull a 30 Ft horse trailer almost every weekend and want to know whats going on in the trans. Next question is where to put the gauge.
I was thinking put it into the oil drain plug. There is so much splashing going on that the oil would be the same temperature thru-out the tranny and as long as the probe is submerged it would be an ok location.
Putting the probe into the oil drain on a tranny is not as bad as putting it into the oil drain plug of the motor as you don't have to remove it for oil changes that often like you do for motor oil changes.
In order to protect the probe the oil fill port would be a better choice. In order to make sure the probe is submerged in the oil you would have to overfill the tranny with oil a bit. (Maybe top it up from the gear shifter)
Let me know how it turns out. I know I will get around to doing this some day.
