How can I tell which front axle is on my son's Bronco (manufacture date of 2/94). Here's where it gets interesting. I am doing the brakes, including calibers and rotors, when I find out that the front disk rotors are for a 1995 w/ antilock brakes - at least that is what the autoparts guy tells me. They are the ones that the wheel hub and anitlock brake sensor piece are all one piece. Now I'm really wondering what's on the front of this truck. How can I tell which axle this is?
If your refuring to the diff, it's going to be a Dana 44 with most likly 3.55 gears. Broncos all have them in the TTB's. I'm not sure but I even think the old solid axles are Dana 44's. But I have heard on this forum that there are differnt brake hubs on differnt years of TTB's.
1993 was one part number and then in 1994 it was changed to a different part number.....thats the hub/rotor combo I am talking about. So if you look through a parts catalog, you will see the rotors listed up to 93, and then another rotor for the 94-96MY's.
Like the guys said, its a Dana44 Twin Traction Beam front axle. That part didn't change from 1980-96 (other than the addition of a C-clip to the stub shaft and a change in the hub retaining nut assembly late in the production run). As for the brake rotor/hub assembly. 1993 was the first year of production that came standard with front ABS. (Its my understanding that the excitor rings for the front ABS were a separate component in 93 ONLY... in other words they were detachable/replacable). While the front ABS remained through 1996 the hub/rotor assembly did undergo some changes the following year that necessitate different rotors between 93 and 94-96. I have never actually obsevered the difference but I do know that every parts reference I've ever seen indicates the a different part number between 93 and the last three production years. (My assumption was that the excitor ring was machined as part of the hub/rotor assembly beginning in 1994). 94 to 96 should still have the same hub/rotor assembly regardless.
