I'm intalling a rust free box on my 94 enforcer 4x4. I never payed too much attention when I cut the old ones off, I need to know if there is a specific bolt that has to be used to hold the bed on the frame or can I just go with a standard Gr 5 bolt, if so what size and length do I need?
They take specific bolts and each one is different....
For mine, the front two and the back two were similar but one set was longer than the other. The two in the middle were different than those in that they had a square under the head of the bolt where the others had oval shapes under the head of the bolt (carage bolt).
What I ended up doing was putting nuts on the top of the bolts and welding them. Then unbolt them - do my thing and bolt them back and cut the nuts off the top and grind it smooth again.
The bolts are unique....but if you can find carage bolts or other bolts that will fit/work than go ahead and use them.
Ok thanks ... Carrage bolts it is... are they 1/2"?? 5/8? how long? I somehow thought that there was a spacer in the crossmembers of the box, The old box was completely shot and was discarded last spring so I have nothing to go by.. except what little memory I have left...lol
Thats a good way to get them off mustang, I wish I would have thought of that last winter when I pulled the bed off of my 91 lol. Would have made things alot easier!
I just use regular carriage bolts and tack weld them to the bed, three spots around the head of the bolt so they don't spin and you can get them loose again.
