Changing from automatic to a standrd

My transmision is starting to slip and I was wondering if i should spend around 4 or 5 grand a get a beefed up automatic or to just put a standard in. I have a 1997 F350 4x4. Its straight piped with super chip programer (1705) and a home made intake. I have Auto Meter gauges EGT, boost, and transmission.

If you are talking about a tranny from BTS or (forgot the other one), then keep the auto. Changing over to a manual tranny has been discussed alot on the forum....Losta work and can get expensive. Manuals have their problems too, just not as bad as the auto's. IMO

I agree, I have thought about changing my manual to a bts auto. But it can get expensive. Manuals are nice for towing but when you drive around town it kinda gets old pushing in the clutch. I bet you would spend that 4 or 5 grand converting over to a manual, when you can have the best auto trans made for the same price.

i suggest getting a beefed up tranny or hooking up with someone who wants the opposite of you and swapping it all over.

Im still debating on what to do! Shifting doesnt bother me. All my other trucks where standard. I just dont want to have to deal with an auto tranny goin out or givein me problems.

I've got a 5 speed in my 1 ton that I do a lot of towing with. There is no way I would ever want an automatic in that thing. It would be trash in 3 months.

My 3/4 ton has an E4OD. I sometimes find myself wanting to shift it. Probably reflex. I think sometimes I want a manual tranny in it and other times I'm happy with what I have. I believe there are some electrical issues with switching to manual, something to do with the cruse control, if memory serves me.

If you are going to get your E4OD rebuilt I recommend Brian's Truck Shop. Those guys know how to build a tranny.
