Help!!!

Hi guys. Im new to this, just thought maybe I can get some input. I have a 1997 powerstroke. It is really hard starting and when it starts it just pours the white smoke. Seems like it lost a little power and just feels like it is "loaded up" with fuel. Could this be a CPS? Also when I push in the clutch to stop ithe motor shakes real bad like it has to catch up to itself. When it is warm, it seems to run fine and start better. CPS???

Hard start + white smoke = glow plug system. More than likely your relay is toast.

What temperature does it get down to at night where you live?
I agree with Pocket, the first thing to check is the glow plugs, but with it still being the end of summer and very warm temperatures, you don't really need glow plugs to start the engine. Especially if you live at sea level like I do. I hardly ever have to wait for the glow plugs unless it's below 50 degrees out and the engine is stone cold.
I've disconnected my Glow Plug Relay and installed a manual button to save glow plug life. I only use it if it's below 60 degrees anymore.
