Any help would be appreciated. I have searched the forums and not found my set up. I have a 96' 5.8l with 6 inch lift and 35/12.50 17s with 4:88 gears and a stock tranny. While rolling down the highway my speedo reads 55mph at about 1800 or 1900rpm. With the set up I have does anyone know what my true mph and rpms should be? Thanks again for any help.
Your RPM's are correct. The diff gears and tires will not effect them. I have those gears, but I'm running 38" tires and my speedo is still 10% high. I think your going to want taller tires. if you want to figure out how much its off, just take it on the highway and note the mile marker signs and compare with your odometer. I would do it over at least ten miles.
I had a few sites, but got a new computer and lost them, and this is all I could find right now. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/index.htm
Scroll all the way down, and on the right, then go up to sections to off road calculators and look at the first 5 or so(one might be about what you want).
Thanks for thr info. Looks like it does tire size and gearing seperately. I will probably take it in and have it calibrated. I am by no means a mechanic and I don't want to make matters worse. I have always wanted a Bronco, I am just going to have to get some of the little issues like this worked out. Thanks for your help.
The guys have got you headed int he right direction. I'll just add that 4.88's with 35's are some tall gears even with overdrive in the transmission. The trade off is a ton of low-end power.
It's ironic, I tell everyone I know my "new" '95 5.0L Bronco 4x4 is a beast. I don't have a lift on it yet and I'm still running the factory 3.55 gears.
It's not a daily-driver to me, but all the mods I'll do to it will be 50-state legal.
sounds like a nice ride. reprogram that speedo and you'll be in good shape. on a '96 it doesn't matter what gears you have, the speed calculation is done based on rotation of the rear wheels vs. tire size.
