Need generator parts for '62 F100 w/223cid 6-cyl...
Help! My generator died when one of the 39-year-old
brush springs broke. The local parts stores laugh at
me when I ask for '62 Ford pickup parts, and the local
generator/alternator rebuild shop tells me you can't
get the springs any more.
And I really don't feel like re-wiring my engine compartment
to accomodate an alternator.
Anybody know of a source for those curly little springs?
Or does anybody know of a source for rebuilt generators?
Or does anybody have a dead generator for a 223cid that
they would sell me? (At least one spring is probably still
good.)
Thanks in advance. I'm getting tired of walking to work.

The generators on our beloved Fords are Autolite built units. Many other vehicle makes, as well as tractors, construction and industrial equipment also used these same/similar units. Therefore, you should be able to find a suitable unit chock-full of replacement parts at a good junk yard. These parts are also available from obsolete suppliers, but you would have to know the part number in most cases. Does your generator have a tag on it? If so what is the unit no.? Let me know and I will try to look it up for you.

Need generator parts for '62 F100 w/223cid 6-cyl...
Luckily, a Ford truck enthusiast I had not thought to call earlier, had a couple of spare generators stashed in his
basement. Some friend, huh?
So I'm back on the road again.
But while I'm here; Where would a guy find a replacement
for the parking brake handle and shaft? My plastic handle
cracked from old age, and came off in my hand the other day.
I makes a loveley paper weight, but it's not too functional.
I get a catalog called 'LMC Truck' which carries a lot of this
kind of thing, but not parking brake handles.
Any suggestions?
Kevin
