I recently filled my fuel tank to full. I have been driving about for a couple days and my guage still shows full. I checked both the Owners and Haynes manual and don't see a fuse for the guages. There is a wire loose near the fuse box (green and brown with an black L shaped cover on a funky shaped metal push in). I don't know if this has anything to do with anything.
Does anyone know what might be happening here?

The reason I asked about the brand of petrol you've been using, or the one you just tanked up with, is that some brands have let some gasolines get to market with more than the normal amount of sulphur content in them & that can upset the FSU(Fuel Sending Unit), especially if it has reactive silver electrical contacts!!!!
Thats a "Acute" short term possibility.
If your gauge problem has been around for a while, it may have a "Chronic" long term problem thats built up, caused by residual, low level, sulphur fuel deposits, in the new "clean" gasolines, that have reacted with the FSU's metal electrical contacts.
Canada is one of the possible problem areas.
A possible fix might be to run nearly all of this tank out, fill up with Chevron & a bottle of Chevrons "Techron Concetrate Plus". It can possibly clean up the sulphur corrosion on many of these sending units, especially if they're reactive silver contacts, & coat the metal such that further corrosion is prevented.
SO, if your problem has just begun & you suspect you may have just gotten a load of high sulphur gas, the Techron may work for you.
If the problem has been around for awhile & you suspect you've been using a high sulphur content fuel for a long period, maybe it'll work, maybe it won't, depends on what kind of FSU you have in your ride & how bad the corrosion may be, IF corrosion is your problem.
Maybe the gauge reads 'full' for a while before showing fuel usage. My gauge would go 'over' full, and stay there for 50-60 miles. Then would drop normally. And, the last quarter tank would disappear quickly.
It is probably just not very accurate.
Have you ever filled the tank before?

The truck is a '92 Ranger XLS. This problem has only happened since my last fill- Canadian Tire which I am told is Sunoco gas. This is the first time it happened. I put 20 liters-about 5 gallons in today. The guage did go from over full to full so maybe for some reason I am getting extraordinary gas milage from the last fillup. I have not been getting great gas milage up until now. I'll keep a watch on it and post if it doesn't come below full. I have never seen a chevron station in Ontario and I am in the north so I definately will not see one.
