04 SD 6.0 stutering
Hi,
I am new to the Ford world of diesels until my recent purchase of a 2004 1/2 super duty 6.0 stroker. It has about 40,000 mi I have had it under a week and it already has issues. I know all about the horror stories of the new motor but was assured that all the troubles were taken care of. Within the first 10 min of driving before it is good and warm if you floor it once in a while it developes a miss with a wooshing intermitent sound that sounds like a tire going flat fast from a big hole as you drive down the road.
A diagnosis from a mechanic to far to drive to localy says a injector stuck open forcing large amounts of fuel out. One other thing was possibly something to do with the turbo being stuck open, variable venturi or something??
I have not yet been to local dealer but tend to think the injector might be it as some of the turbo air tubes seem to be wet?
Any ideas or similar instances might help? Thanks

I had what may be a similar problem. Not flooring it. But towing a trailer. When going up a hill and begin to "feel" the load, it would start a regular steady miss with a coughing sound each time it missed, about once per second until I let off the throttle. Mine was a bad EGR valve. New valve and all was well. I took my truck with loaded trailer behind to the dealer, his service tech hooked up his portable computer, we took a test drive, symptoms showed up on first hill, computer said EGR valve, back to dealer, new valve, problem gone. After getting back, tech said he should have disconnected EGR valve while we were out just to verify problem, but we did not go back on road. He just replaced the valve. So, I would say that you can disconnect the EGR valve (very simple to unplug) and give it a try and see if the problem goes away.
