Newbie with wheel question

Hello,

I am a new member who has just purchased a 1947 One Ton Truck in decent running condition and which I intend to restore over time.I am trying to keep the truck stock except for safety upgrades. I have been told by a dealer to replace the split rim 17x7 wheels with a "modern" one piece wheel and radial tires for safety. Is this the right way to go and can anyone recommend a source for the wheels? Thanks.

47Lumbertruck, welcome to FTE, glad you stopped by.
You are better off with a newer style rim so you can mount newer tires. Radial tires do give better handling over the old bias ply, plus are easier to find. Check out some places such as Stockton Wheel, they can set you up with some wheels with the correct bolt pattern 5 on 6.5 and backspacing.

Goes to show that you learn some thing new every day. Been around these old Ford trucks a long time mostly 1/2 tons 37 on up.

Never knew that the pre 48 3/4 tons had a 5 bolt wheel pattern. Where as you probably know 48 on up had the 8 bolt pattern, this would have been an easy find wheel for this guy to find.

Anyway thanks for the update on your post, I am now a little more the wiser than I was prior to reading this.
