psd or 5.4L
the psd seems to be good on mpg but is it sluggish? so i am not sure weather to buy the f-150 supercrew with the 5.4L or the f-250 superduty with the psd or maybe with the v10 but i don't know anything about them.
The V-8 is a fine choice as long as you will not be doing a lot of heavy hauling/towing. If you are yanking a boat once in a while the 5.4 will be fine. The 5.4 can be perked up pretty easily with intake and exhaust mods like the diesel can. If you plan on putting big skins on, go with the V-10.
A lot of people underestimate the mileage of the V-10. For most people the V-10 will perform close to the 5.4, maybe a bit better when hauling. The V-10 is best if you need to haul regularly and make a lot of short (less than 10 miles or so). Remember the truck will weigh about 7000# the V-10 doesn't have to work nearly as hard to make it move as the V-8 does.
The PSD, even in current form is no slug. An Amsoil or K&N air filter and a free flowing exhaust (I like the Dynomax) alone will reduce the turbo lag. You can do this for about $300. Try a MicroTuner for another $300 or so and you got something. Do not consider the PSD unless you are driving at least 15 miles or so per trip. Diesels need to warm up and run, they are not the best for short trips. Plus they are $4000 or so more than the V-10, close to $5000 more than the V-8.
Drive them and find out.
