My brake pedal will go slowly to the floor when i am stoped at a light. The braking feels a little weak but is still stopping me for the time being. My brake pads should be in good shape but I did notice a little bit of brake fluid on the inside of my dirvers side front tire. Need some help please. Master cylinder? Brake lines?
First off, go look at the fluid level in the M/C; has this been done yet? Second, it would appear that you have a fluid leak; depending on where and what's leaking this could be dangerous (not that any leak is ever acceptable). One huge red flag would be a hose; I've seen old hoses expand like a balloon and ready to pop like one too. 14 years is a long time on a hose and they are not life of vehicle items. So on this note, you need to do a thorough inspection of your brake system to help determine what needs to be repaired. I would encourage you to not drive this vehicle, for very obvious reasons, until the brakes are fixed. Get into an accident, even if it's not your fault, investigators discover that you had bad brakes, and you might be surprised at what will happen to you (negligence on your behalf regarding vehicle maintenance contributed to the accident).
I replaced the Master Cylinder, and the front calipers. I did the calipers because one of them stuck and decided that 15 years was the right time.
You could probably do the master cylinder and change your front hoses at the same time. Just be careful with all of the metal brake lines. You can't get them anywhere beside a junkyard (ask me how I know). Also, I recommed looking into a rebuilt mastercylinder since on the new ones, the plug does not fit into the bottom of the fluid reservoir.
